Case Study | Anti-social behaviour

Reason for referral
Young person was referred via South LIT due to her involvement in antisocial behaviour.

Goals
• Exploring the risks and consequences of ASB
• Exploring positive friendships/relationships
• The consequences of criminal behaviour in and outside of school

Intervention

8 1-2-1 sessions carried out looking at:-

ASB – Looked at the consequences of ASB and how this can negatively impact education as well as gaining a criminal record. We explored the risks of ASB alongside the consequences and dangers of joint enterprise. We explored this through reading about/watching videos on real life scenarios and stories of young people who have a record for ASB, activity worksheets “what would you do” ASB scenario cards.

Positive/Negative Friendships – We explored the impact and consequences of associating with negative peers and those who influence others to participate in negative behaviour. We watched videos that explored negative influential behaviour within a gang of teenage girls and the peer pressure to participate in criminal activities. We explored how to better manage conflict and how to avoid fighting with peers, as well as preventing arguing with others when feeling angry.

Outcome
• YP gained awareness on spotting the signs of negative friendships and when they may be encouraged to participate in criminal behaviour.
• YP also gained some awareness of when to walk away from a distressing situation and to not allow others to aggravate them into fighting as they are now aware of the consequences of this.

Impact
• Following discussions around fighting and the consequences of the outcome of these situations, YP was able to see their own mistakes and took accountability for own behaviour in these circumstances.
• YP was able to identify some of their own experiences through watching videos of peer pressure within gangs of girls and feels confident they would be able to challenge this pressure if faced with it in future.
• YP stated “I feel like these sessions have helped me, you have helped me realise what I want to improve on in myself and what I don’t want in a friendship”.
