CASE STUDY | Confidence, independence and building positive relationships
Support YP with developing confidence and independence .To build positive relationships with peers.
The Intervention
YP attended 5 1-2-1 sessions and 7 Group sessions at the trading cards group
Sessions explored personal interests and worries about starting groups.
YP played chess and uno with TSS Worker, the aim of this was to encourage YP to become familiar playing games with other people and explaining the rules in a safe environment. This resulted in SH feeling prepared to start Trading Cards group as a part of the group was to play games and follow instructions.
YP and TSS worker visited Unit B3, where the group work takes place. This allowed YP to have a look round and ask any questions about the building and group work.
Outcomes
YP completed a mind star, at the beginning and end of support. At the end of supported yp scored higher regarding friendships and school.
By attending sessions on a 121 basis, YP’s confidence increased, as yp’s confidence increased, they were then able to attend Trading Cards group at Positive Futures alone.
YP still attends Positive Futures on a Thursday night.
YP can now play Dungeons and Dragons.
YP was signposted to other Positive Futures activities and a local fishing programme.
YP had just started secondary school when he started support at Positive Futures, YP was nervous at the beginning but now is feeling confident in school and is attending after school club and has made 2 new friends in school.
YP gained more independence attending Positive Futures and has also made new friends.
“It’s helped me get less stressed and it got me to broaden my social skills in groups and 121 sessions”.
