CASE STUDY | Feeling hopeless, lacking confidence and motivation
YP had no education placement at the time of the referral and was feeling hopeless. Lacking in confidence and motivation YP felt that nothing was suitable for him and when contacting 6th forms, he was informed nothing was available until Spetember’22. Mum described YP as being down and no support for his age group and the growing concerns around his wellbeing.
The Intervention
The YP’s main goal was to engage in full time 6th form or college placement, but their sub goals included:
1) Improve confidence and self-esteem
2) Continue to engage in social activities
3) Attend 121 sessions provided by Positive Futures and consider further offers of activities or programs.
Outcomes
- YP completed an 8-week Business Admin traineeship which they stated improved their confidence and got them back into the mindset of wanting to learn and develop.
- YP secured part time jobs with Sodexo based with Everton Football Club and the M&S Bank Arena
- YP applied for a college placement themselves, only requiring support on enrollment day as needed an adult with them.
- YP enrolled on a full-time college placement at The City of Liverpool College – therefore meeting their main goal.
- They are now enjoying their time back in education.
- YP has stated following college they will look to go onto university and hopefully run their own business in the not too distant future.
“I was able to quickly build a relationship with Ryan who was firm but fair with me challenging each decision I made to make sure I knew what I was doing and why. Having someone in my corner when at the time I thought I had just my mum was massive and gave me the motivation to achieve not only for myself but for the people that believed in me…when’s the next Kimo’s!”.
