Recently, we offered support to parents who were struggling to understand neurodiversity, and the impact that neurodiversity had on them, the child, and the family as a whole. The parents were also struggling to implement the appropriate boundaries.
We provided support work directly to the parents, helping them to gain a greater understanding of neurodiversity, as well as giving support in implementing clear and consistent boundaries within their family home. We also helped to improve the family’s routines, as well as provided emotional support when needed.
We provided 7 sessions of support, directly working on choices and consequences, routines, and setting boundaries within the home. As well as providing emotional support, we worked with the parents to support self-awareness when dealing with challenging situations, aiming to improve wellbeing and confidence – with regular check-ins between sessions.
We also directed them towards specialist services, such as Family Help, SENDIASS and the ADHD Foundation
Family Support intervention had an overall positive impact on the families’ outcomes. We supplied the parents with a greater understanding of their children’s needs, and improved family routines and boundaries in the home, as well as improved the parents’ emotional wellbeing and resilience.
