Colourful mural unveiled at new Positive Futures site

A colourful entrance hall mural is the final touch to Positive Future’s newly-restored youth hub in Anfield, Liverpool, thanks to the volunteer work of mural company, Absolutely Design.

A colourful and eye-catching mural at Positive Futures youth club at the new Tetlow Road site near Anfield, is one of the final touches to the youth development charity’s newly-restored youth hub. It was designed and painted free of charge by North West-based mural company, Absolutely Design. The welcoming mural painted in the club’s entrance hall is designed to be a fun, generic snapshot of the diversity and potential of the young people stepping through its doors.

Amanda Wills, Trustee at Positive Futures, said, “Positive Futures is enormously grateful to Graham Boyd and Nikki Pinder for donating their design and painting talents to create this fun, colourful artwork in collaboration with our team and young people. We are passionate about the young people we support and know first impressions are really important. So, we are delighted that this mural in our entrance hall gives an immediately positive impact to every young person who walks through the front door. In one glance it says ‘this is a place where you fit in’.”

“The mural is a perfect fit for the main entrance area, known as the ‘Town’. Here the exciting vibe of ‘going into town’ is created with a bar, cafe, pods and gaming zone. Elsewhere, Positive Futures understand that young people need an area for downtime so there is a calm zone and even ‘Nan’s Front Room’, a room designed to create a feeling of safety and comfort with comfy sofas, chintz, a biscuit tin and quaint ornaments.”

Positive Futures will be formally opening with a huge party for all the young people later this year and is an open access youth centre giving targeted support to all young people, including those with anxiety and mental health, special educational needs and those who are neurodiverse. It runs an action-packed series of activities from football and swimming coaching, to breakfast and dinner clubs, games in the park, youth nights and holiday activities, as well as targeted one to one support for individuals, and outreach programmes with schools and in the local community. It was recently awarded a £1m Youth Investment Grant which allowed Positive Futures to create a state-of-the-art sustainable hub.

Graham Boyd, Founder of Chester-based Absolutely Design, said“Positive Futures is a catalyst for creativity and hope, and I am very impressed by its programme to engage and empower young people. I passionately believe that it is important to create as many opportunities as possible for young people to reach their potential, especially during these difficult economic times.

“First impressions count and I hope that as they enter the youth hub the young people will look at the mural and think ‘this is the sort of place where I fit in and can be happy’. I wish Positive Futures every success in the future.”

Absolutely Design works across the country and many people will be familiar with the mural company’s 17 life-size murals in Chester’s new Market & Foodhall complex, illustrating the City’s numerous parades as well as key scenes from its history. Absolutely Design offers bespoke murals for walls both inside and out and works for a wide range of businesses and attractions.

In addition to its paid projects, the Absolutely Design team has also donated time and materials to the HYPE Project in Liscard Road’s HYPE Hub on the Wirral and the ‘Passion for Learning’ charity.
