Family support case study – parent of teenagers

Reason for referral

Parent of teenage children. One of the children displayed some challenging behaviours which has had an impact on parents’ emotional wellbeing and has limited support network.

 

Goals agreed 

Provide emotional support parent.

Support for parent to feel confident and resilient, to be supported with healthy coping strategies for both her and children.

 

Support provided

3 1-2-1 sessions took place

Direct work with parent to understand stress and how this impacts her ability to manage day to day.

TSS supported carer to identify healthy coping strategies for all family members.

 

Outcomes

Initial assessment scores compared to exit scores:

Family Star initial score 79 exit score 93

Risk protective initial score 10 exit score 4

Goal based outcomes initial score 4 exit score 9

The quantitative data above evidences how confidence and resilience has improved with the support from the Family Support Service.

 

Impact

“The Family Support Worker has really helped to overcome my anxieties. I felt stuck and unsupported at the time the FSW became involved. I feel better able to manage day to day stressors and have a better outlook for me and my children.”
